Took my CISSP exam on Jun 10 in St Louis.
Thought I did well but having read all the posts on
CCCure.org, I was hesitant to believe that I will make it. As days went by and I waited, I had mixed feelings but deep down inside I always thought I should be through. And I did get through - got the confirmation email on Jun 22, 2006!!!
My study plan was not really great because I had many gaps from the time I started the first time in Dec '05. I got really serious towards the end of Apr '06 and started spending more and more time after work reading the AIO book, related articles after googling to clear concepts, and spending good deal of time on this website (including doing quizzes only on weekends).
In early May I signed up for the exam and that triggered me to work even harder because now there was no looking back, pretty much do or die. Thanks to my company, enrolled in a ISC2 CBK Review Seminar. The biggest advantage of the seminar was that I was only concentrating on CBK from Saturday before seminar to Sunday after Seminar. I think unless your company is paying for it, you can do without the seminar as long as you have experience and concepts.
Last week of May, I started with the Official ISC2 book and I was able to go through the whole thing (some domains twice) in about 10 days, along with my work and other commitments. I RECOMMEND spending more time with this book, though reading the AIO book first.
The last week was only reviewing the sections I had marked in the two books and also solved the questions from the Krutz and Vines book. I spent some time on the KV book for the sections missing in the other two books. I was also doing the cccure.org quiz as I was going through, reviewing each domain. So, after Dom 1, I did quiz on that topic, after Dom 2 I quizzed on 1&2, after Dom 3 I quizzed 1,2 & 3 and so on... it helped to check my retention.
I did have a few things to revisit for the last day, in the form of flash cards that I prepared in the last 3 weeks.
To the exam, I carried water and a couple energy bars - this was a GOOD advice from someone on cccure.org forum. Thanks!
I used all 6 hours in the exam center and was the last one to exit - the bottom line is the result, regardless of how long you take! I am glad I spent time and corrected some responses on second thought (confirmed later).
This was by far one of the toughest tests and it was a test of experience for the most part, checking how you apply your knowledge and concepts. I would say retention of what you read is important too, especially for the domains that you haven't had experience with in real life.
To summarize, I used
AIO - Shon Haris
Off ISC2 Guide
Kurtz & Vines book - somewhat
Took part in the CBK questions forum and read old messages on cccure.org.
Kept my cool in the exam - VERY important.
Good Luck everyone working on the exam!
