Public key cryptography and Integrity
2007-06-03 13:44:56
Here's an online article on Public key cryptography at Carnegie Melon Univ

Quoting the text from the website
Public key cryptography is especially useful in situations where there is a need for confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation.

I wanted to try out the integrity claim, so I tried out the RSA demo encryption at http://shop-js.sourceforge.net/crypto2.htm

I put a random seed, using the random.org link provided.

Clicked on Generate key and it showed me that the seed size is 1024.

Click Generate key again and it fills up your p, q, d and e.

I put in the text
Aman Raheja is testing Public key Crypto

Now hit Encrypt and I got

2006-11-27 11:49:06
This is one of the best guides and indeed the Official guide as well.

Available at On Amazon.com

I used the first edition to pass my exam and was grateful that I used the official guide. It is highly recommended to use this book if you are shooting for the CISSP exam.

Good Luck !

Information / Network Security Podcasts
2006-11-26 20:46:06
Lately, I have been listening to some Security Podcasts.

I think they are great, well most of them !

It is a very interesting way of keeping in touch of what's going on out there when you are too busy to look out from busy job schedules and the localized issues at work. How do you know that these is a better solution out there and you don't have to re-invent the wheel.
It also promotes your level of thinking and motivates (depends on the person) to look into things with a different perspectives.

I am going to start a list of these all and would welcome others to add to the list.

The ones I know right now (without bias of what is better) are enlisted in random order

Security Catalyst
Security Now
SabagSecurity (not active at this time)
Hak.5 (videos too)
Security Wire weekly

Enjoy Podcasting !

Installing djbdns with patches
2006-09-12 17:15:18
These steps can simply be copied and pasted to install djbdns on Linux.
This also includes the patch that I created to address the invalid user issue with original package.

Install djbdns on Fedora Core 3

I have tested these with
Fedora Core 3

Anyone who tests with another flavor / version of Linux may contribute and point out any tweaks done on the way to successfully install it.

CISSP Prep
2006-08-26 22:50:33
Took my CISSP exam on Jun 10 in St Louis.
Thought I did well but having read all the posts on CCCure.org, I was hesitant to believe that I will make it. As days went by and I waited, I had mixed feelings but deep down inside I always thought I should be through. And I did get through - got the confirmation email on Jun 22, 2006!!!

My study plan was not really great because I had many gaps from the time I started the first time in Dec '05. I got really serious towards the end of Apr '06 and started spending more and more time after work reading the AIO book, related articles after googling to clear concepts, and spending good deal of time on this website (including doing quizzes only on weekends).

In early May I signed up for the exam and that triggered me to work even harder because now there was no looking back, pretty much do
